  WORDWANGLER

MORE STUFF. From me. In various places. IT AIN'T NEVUH GONNA STOP.

1. PAX East was a thing here in Boston this past weekend. I wrote about it for the Herald. PAX is basically the San Diego Comic Con for games, and it attracts an absolutely ridiculous amount of people. I had a pretty good time even though the floor was uncomfortably packed, but then I think I spent more time drinking with writer friends from the internet than I did at the event.

2. I wrote a review of MLB 10: The Show for the Boston Herald.

3. My review of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is in this month's issue of Paste; it's also up on Paste's site.

4. Finally, last week's Weekly Dig included my review of Endless Ocean: Blue World.

comments might be going away soon

Haloscan went tits up a while back and the new replacement service is only free for a month. Comments can be a glorious thing but not when they cost a single cent. I'll probably just switch over to whatever commenting system blogspot offers. That'll wipe out the last six years worth of comments but oh well.

  RIP Alex Chilton

UPDATE: I wasn't going to post a video but this 1985 piece from 120 Minutes is really good.

Aw Jesus what miserable news. He was one of the most talented guys ever, and 59 isn't that old. Gonna go blast Like Flies on Sherbet now if you don't mind.

Things continue to be written by me.

1. I've got a piece about the Rock Band Network in today's Boston Herald. This is the freshly launched service that lets bands and labels turn their music into downloadable Rock Band tracks while also rapidly expanding the game's potential song catalogue. Authoring a song is a mighty damn complicated process and I'm not sure if I'll ever finish either of the Je Suis France and Reports songs I started work on. It's also a potentially great source of embarrassing music. Most annoying thing I've found on RBN: a song by the band Broadcast. Okay, not THE band Broadcast but A band called Broadcast, namely a midwestern emo-ish group who've apparently never heard the English Broadcast who've been putting out records since the edges of my mustache still didn't quite reach my beard.

2. I had a few comic reviews in yesterday's Herald, with brief notes on Mome Volume 17, Hotwire Comics #3, and Newave! The Underground Mini Comix of the 1980s.

3. This week's Herald trifekta launched with Monday's review of God of War III.

4. Finally I also have a short review of the latest Aliens vs. Predator game in this week's Weekly Dig.

You think this shit is boring to read, imagine what it's like writing it all.

Jerry Fights With Death on the Way to Live 8 in Berlin

JERRY: Alright, Death, take another step and I’ll stomp your fucking ass into powder. I’m going to Live 8, and nothing will be capable of stopping this!

DEATH: But Jerry, it is the time for your bodily functions to cease!

JERRY: I don’t care, I’m not missing Die Toten Hosen, the opening band, for anything! Now get out of my way, Death.

DEATH: Jerry, the world must work in certain ways. This is one of the ways in which the world must work. You can not change this world, friend, no matter how strenuously you exert yourself!

JERRY: I refuse to miss Green Day’s punked-up cover of Queen’s “We Are The Champions”! I say this again, and heed my words well, Death: I will stomp your smooth ivory bones into powder!

DEATH: I feared it would come to this. When one refuses to travel with me willingly, we must resort to the basest of violence, engaging in fisticuffs like vile and racially insensitive cartoon Irishmen.

JERRY and DEATH fight. One of them wins.
