That was one of the funnest birthday parties i've ever been to. Holy shit. Griggs ushering in his 33rd year in fucking STYLE. Gordon started things out with an amazingly unpracticed Jimmy Buffet One Man Band, which WAS TOTALLY FUCKING GREAT. Jesus. He had all of us laughing so hard. Margaritaville into Lets Get Drunk & Screw (with kids running around! including Jay's son Oliver dancing with Les' daughter right up front!!!) Closed with "Ride Like The Wind" not really Buffet, but who gives a rats ass. We didnt.
I got up there for SPCD and as Griggs' told me today - "I learned last night that SPCD is very polarizing." hahaha. perfect description. Either you understand that Billy Corgan is the greatest song writer in the history of time, or you dont. And you're gay. The set was 10x sloppier than I could have imagined but again, who gives a shit who gives a fuck. Griggs enjoyed the SPCD shirt* that Ice and I screen printed for him and the other "special treats" in his goodie bag. You'll be seeing more SPCD in the next week, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT BITCH!
The party finished up with Cut Buffer the yacht tribute. Everyone quickly got on the boat as they launched us through versions of Summer Breeze, Right Down The Line, some Little River Band jam plus tons others...it was awesome as shit. They closed with a one man piano jam of EYE IN THE SKY...totally finished the party perfectly. Everyone actually got quiet and were just totally blown away.
Overall I'd say Griggs' had the best birthday party of his life.
***I made 12 SPCD screenprinted shirts with that logo above, they were gone before I finished packing my shit up. If you didnt answer a Smashing Pumpkins trivia question right and didnt grab one when i finished, leave a comment here with your shirt size. I even gave mine away (by accident) so I'm definitely gonna make some more.
UPDATE 2 - Griggs just sent me the quote of the night!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA: "I don't remember exactly who I was talking to but they said something like "Wow, I really thought SPCD was going to be better." and I said something like, "How could it possibly have been any better?"
Dark, i've been meaning to ask you about this drama with Obama and the Cambridge Cop. Boston is known as being a very racially divided city, how is your average non racist citizen thinking regarding this situation?
From everything that I have read about how everything went down with the arrest - it seems to me that if the dude was white - he wouldnt have been arrested. Especially after he proved he lived there.
I didnt think what the prez said was terrible, but he probably should have thought about his wording better. Still that being said - I really cant believe that this is as out of control as it is.
So griggs' bday was Monday, but we jammin for it on SUNDAY. And good lawd is it gonna be a doosey. Actually I'm somewhat nervous about it b/c it will be the first ever performance by SPCD. Smashing Pumpkins Cover Dude. Been jammin the idea for a lifetime and on Sunday - it comes to fruition. All the pignose amps are in place and ready to be flipped over to "distortion"...gonna have a jam.
Check out this lineup to take place in Griggs' backyard:
4pm - Gordon Lamb's One-Man Jimmy Buffett Cover Band (Lamb Man Band) 4:30pm - SPCD: Smashing Pumpkins Cover Dude 5pm - Cut Buffer Extended Band featuring the world's tallest drummer.
Come monday I'll have some other shit to post here regarding SPCD. Lets just say there is gonna be some crowd participation...including some trivia...FOR PRIZES!
Random Sleezy Dude On Bourbon St: HEY GUY ON THE PHONE HEY GUY ON THE PHONE Me (hanging up phone with Flip / walking faster to get by this dude): haha RSLOBS: Do you like Titties? Me: Of course I do. (Not in a douchy way - more in a "I'm trying to get this dude away from me" way) RSLOBS: WELL YOU WANNA FUCK SOME?

One of the things that is awesome about doing Radio Undefined on 1690 is that I have the freedom to play whatever I want for the most part. AM broadcasts in Mono, so that limits some of the stuff that I'd like to play. Things with alot of electronic elements or are overly produced or processed sound really bad on the signal. It's not a big deal, but it forces me to really dig for interesting stuff rather than just picking all the tracks off my recently added list on Itunes. I'm always looking for new stuff or new ideas and since I've been posting the playlists for the first five shows I wanted to see if you guys had any suggestions of stuff that might sound good on the show. Thanks dudes

A sign that I haven't watched wrestling in years: I initially typed WWE Raw, but it looked so weird I deleted the first part. I also continued to use the name "NWA" years after it became WCW.

This weekend was productive. I produced some shit. Shit like good music, and solid housework, and barely acceptable writing. Adult-level shit, like a true man. I fucking did it.
Friday started with a dude meet-up at the space. We loaded the gear out towards the Fens, and then experienced and helped to perpetrate a fine night of music-making. Reports (a band I am in) played Homegrown: A Loose Psych-Fest at a club called Church. Thing started a bit early, and for some reason awesome out-of-towners Gary War went on at like 7, so we missed all but two of their songs. Sounded good and Hawkwindish, though. They were great the other two times I saw 'em. Magic People and Quits were also both fantastic. Bummer I missed Saturday night's show, with Blues Control and Kurt Vile, an unbeatable one-two punch if ever there was one.
Saturday and Sunday was devoted 100% to house-related labor. We bought a lawnmower, various tools, some paint-related supplies, fine cheeses, and other mandatory essentials. We painted like dickheads with a painting obsession. And then I spent an hour or so mowing that irresponsibly large backyard. I had to ditch the attached grass bag 'cuz it filled up every seven minutes or so. The neighbors were having a picnic and I kind of felt bad, but well fuck it, they could just as easily eat inside, whereas our lawn is wholly external.
Yep, success returns to the suburbs, and the winners circle has us squarely in the center.
This weekend: more painting. And an extra Boston terrier to frolic with. And perchance a visit from Zachary Q. Cincotta, Esq.?

Yo La Tengo and Wilco played Brooklyn together on this past Monday. Below is the audio from both sets. YLT comes out during the end of Wilco's set and jams Spiders (Kidsmoke) with them in a jam of epic proportions.
NYCTAPER is a badass and you should check up with his blog regularly b/c he always posts fantastic shows! Oneida is coming up soon! Cant wait b/c they aint comin near here.
