Saturday night was a huge success. Thanks a lot to everyone who fought back all the frat dudes with Duke Lacross tshirts on to make it to the Caledonia after the bike race. Big thanks to the people from Atlanta that drove up, and the Bergerons (all 6 in attendence)!!! Steve Stevenson & The Steverinos were fuckin great. First show ever and they delivered. Shakey start but once they realized how fun playing can be, they cooled out and played well. Everyone I talked to really liked it a lot. I think the "STEVE!" chant at the end of their set proved that. Really brought back some awesome memories of the first few France shows. MB/Velc was krunkly and awesome as shit. I first saw MB at 8:45 and he thought it was 5pm. Been drinking since he awoke - he got up inbetween some bands and handed us our brains on a platter. Funny ass sub shit. Night Moves was out of this world. The cdr Ice burned me has these songs on there but jesus did I know the songs would fucking come alive on stage. extended versions of pretty much everything and god damn those bass lines. A few technical flubs, but overall the shit was tighter than you could have expected. So smooth. Flip and I hit it an quit it with about 12 minutes of jams to a nice reception. Had to cut a new one b/c of the time restraints and truly we just had to give the hits on a delirium night. Hillary has video of Energon Cubes. What next, mutherfuck yeah - THE TRAP. Bombastic Flash Gordon intro warmed us up and hits like Molotov Cocktail and RAVERS UNITE brought our asses into teh promised land. I think they played Ravers Unite 3 times. Bonus time. I think they got on stage at 12:50 so time was crunched and they didnt get to play as long as they wanted. Guess they'll have to play my 30th bday, oh well. France went on somewhere around 1:30 I think. Everyone was in it to win it, crowd was off the chain and right there with us the whole night. Thanks. Had a true french intro, which will see the light of day someday. Played some sloppy covers and vowed never to touch that ground twice. I think I finally realized it was an amazing delirium when the crowd took the knee for the second time. God damn, so awesome yall. I look over and see Ice's dad give me a huge smile and a thumbs up. Thats the night in a nutshell. Oh yeah, is Jared Brown alive? Thanks also to everyone who bought copies of the France/Acid Mothers 12". Much appreciated. We also had new Tshirts to sell but we never got them to the club from Nick Canada's house. I'll post a picture of one of them soon. I think ice is charging like $5 a piece for em. Missed Dark, Crog, SA, and Ken majorly, but the next time we're in Athens in July - you'll not only see a 9 horse strong france, but also hear the jams we cant play with only 5 people. ONLY 5 people, that sounds awesome. Oh yeah and we'll have copies of Af Maj for sale. Thanks for a great time everyone!
Ween played in Allentown, PA last week. Twas the first show they played since starting and finishing their latest record. They recorded 60 songs for it by the way. 20 of which will make the record, 10 others which will make an EP this summer. The other 30???? A few new ones were jammed, and damn they were good. You can stream the entire show here!
I highly recommend giving these tracks a go:
The Party (***new one that is fucking great) Pork Roll Egg & Cheese Gabrielle Touch My Tooter Even If You Dont JUICE MAN (******new satanic reggae!) Happy Colored Marbles Homo Rainbow
This is the greatest concept that has ever existed. Here now laid before you is your first glimpse into the eye of Personal, the leader of the Pizzas. Shit, this is real. From our inside sources, this is the first of many Pizza Jams. New genre of life? Yes. Finally a band that has realized the earth.
Total mind whipper. Man, i need to start bringing my regular camera to more shows, thats for sure. That and some sort of recording device.
What a show. Lots and lots of people in attendence. Way more than recent times AMT came through. Chalk that up to it being on a friday night and the freaks being out for 4:20. Total stonerfest which ruled b/c everyone was super into the music. Well, not everyone - I looked over and about 1/3 of the crowd left within the first 2 songs (including some of our friends i think). Different strokes for different folks, I guess. One thing's for sure Flip was feelin that shit! Eyes closed jammin!! Damn though AMT was on.
We got there late which pissed me off b/c I really wanted to see the opener but I did have a few minutes to pop my head backstage and give Makoto the France/AMT split. They liked it but I think the band was more excited about my LWO shirt than they were about the record. They got out there and in typical fashion Higashi started the show with the much welcomed COSMIC SWIRL coming from his roland. This dude is awesome by the way b/c his main job in the band is to make space sounds and dance (play gutiar sometimes) and wear cool pants. Dude has the best pants ever, just ask ice. They started the show rather slowly with a new improv jam that was slower and featured a lot of the newest female member, Kitagawa Hao on thermin and wailing voice. It was a good welcome mat but really shit got kicked off right during the second song when the fuckin' barn door was blasted off and they ripped into the 9 part song from their newest album "Nam Myo Ho Ren Ge Kyo". Total face melter that was jamming in double time. The song is really long, longer than normal 15 minute realm and not many minded as everyone realized their insides were being liquefied from the heat of the riffs.
I'm a little fuzzy on order of songs but what I think came sometime next was "Phantom Fire Ball" - another mountain rocker with a centralized riff that they ride pretty much for 10 minutes. the addition of thermin to the cosmos was great and really took you way the fuck out to Alpa Centauri 109. Towards the end of the first set was when the shit got heavy. "Pink Lady Lemonade" time. I was trying to describe this song to someone and to AMT its like their Stairway to Heaven. Its their fucking #1 jam. Starts off with this trance like guitar line that goes over and over and over and over, lulling you in as the song steadily builds for a good 15 minutes. The guitar picking changes as the time signature changes too, so it really has time to get its hooks set into you and then as you think the song is hitting its peak - BOOM - Makoto rips into this solo on the perfect accentuating note and it almost brings your ass to your knees. When they get a hold of this song on certain nights, its impossible to deny their majesty. Tonight’s version was about 30 minutes long with another song thrown in the middle. Fucking amazing. AFter PLL, they took a break and came back on for a beautiful acoustic version of "La Novia" with the bass player playing acoustic guitar and Makoto quietly playing this old noise making metal cup that attached to his strings. They closed the show with another improv jam I believe that Makoto talked about on their message boards the next day.
Overall a grade A show for them. Lots of our friends went who had not seen them before, so i'm interested to see what everyone thought.
All this being said, one of the coolest parts of the night was at the merch table aka Shop Zone. They had more offerings than I had ever seen (lots of solo stuff) and I quickly nabbed up the stuff i didnt have yet. BEST PURCHASE OF THE NIGHT WAS their new tour ep: Crystal Rainbow Pyramid Under The Stars. Jesus Christ this is the best thing AMT has released in YEARS. I'm not bullshitting here. I listened to it 3 times this weekend already. And fuck the EP status, this thing clocks in at 69:59 (the longest time you can get on a cd). Vintage AMT, you got the heavy riffage, and the beauty all rolled into one disc. The best is the second song which is a wet dream for me. Concentrated groove that at exactly 10:00 minutes into the song hits with a super rad change and solo (reminds me of the anticipation of Sheets Of Easter). Anyways the cool thing is that at the 11 minute point, 12 minute point, and 13 minute point EXACTLY they hit this same change. The last song on the disc is a low country boil with some definite rockin (including major sitar jam) but dissipates into a beautiful raga style ambience that rides until the disc ends.
IF YOU SEE AMT ON THIS TOUR BUY THIS THING! IF YOU BUY ANYTHING THIS YEAR BY AMT, GET THIS! The cd version comes with the extra 3rd song, but the vinyl versions come in 2 types of colored vinyl: red and blood drop clear. BEAUTIES!!! This tour ep will be on my year end list, no doubt.

Killer shows this weekend in ATL.
FRIDAY - 4/20 Acid Mothers Temple Mammatus
I cant think of a better day to see this lineup. Freakin' 420. You know our love for AMT, but Mammatus is pretty incredible too. Go check out their Myspace Page and just try and tell me them and the France aren't long lost brothers... Meeting up to hang with Kawabata as well to give him a copy of the 12", stoked for that. AND AMT has 3 new releases out (scroll to the bottom) & a new DVD documentary on them, meaning I'll probably drop $80 at the "shop zone" on Friday.
MONDAY 4/23/07 Brightblack Morning Light White Lodge Earl
This was one of my favorite records of all last year and I've been waiting to see them live. Should be a great chilled out groovy show. Peace, brews, jams, good vibes, solos, you know just some real time fun. L said she would go if I could convince her it wasnt going to be a hippyfest.

This is the show they played in a cave carved into the side of a mountain. During the second song SA went to jump off the stage, didnt see the staircase and severly sprained his ankle. So much so that he had sausage foot and black toes for the rest of the trip. When I hung with him yesterday he was using a cane. Price you pay for a Hammjamm level 5.

infamous Fenway pizza fight of '07
I read about this all day yesterday before finally being able to watch the footage last night. It doesn't disappoint.
I think this post might go out directly to one Michael Ziegler, and with it "I hope to arouse the argument that's been dormant in the innermost recesses of my soul". .
First off...the Atlanta Thrashers won their division on Saturday night taking hold of the #3 spot in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. You probably didnt hear about it. This is the first time the birds have made it to the post season in their franchise's history. Needless to say Thrashers fans are pretty bonkers right now and with the Braves at 6-1 and the Hawks season almost over, Atlanta is feelin' right. Mr. Ziegler and I have had an ongoing feud for the past several years concerning the NHL. Zieg (along with many others) thinks the NHL is a useless league and one that is doomed to crumble, especially with the missed year last year due to player/ownership disputes and waning TV interest. Zieg personally doesn't like the sport because its too brutal and "promotes violence". Despite all he throws up in his defense, it pretty much boils down to the gact that he "doesn't understand the game" and doesnt care to. It takes a few games to grasp all the rules, so I dont blame him for giving up.
If you have ever been to a Thrashers game or ANY NHL game for that matter, its clear that hockey is the most fast paced professional sport. It doesn't ever get the lead story on Sports Center, and if you asked the average person on the side of the street to name a player - they couldnt. Mainly because there really is no star value in the NHL. Maybe that's why Zieg can't hang...because there is no Labron, or TO, or Freddy Adu (the greatest athelete that will ever exist ever), or a segway. The drama in the sport comes from just that...actual sport. If there is any bad blood, they drop the gloves and the argument is over in about a minute. One player can not carry an NHL team. Next to soccer, it might be the biggest underdog sport in America. That being said, the fans of hockey are a pretty tight-knit and extremely loyal group, BUT I have never come across someone that has gone to a Thrashers game that hasn't had a totally amazing time. I think the Thrashers marketing crew is top notch and possibly one of the best in the NHL, but still I know people who could give a FLYING FUCK about hockey, or anything that isnt the Braves for that matter - who go to games and come back converted hockey fans who are now buying ticket packs to the playoffs.
Do I really give a shizzle if Zieg ever comes around, no. Do I care if NBC picks up more than one game a week? No, as long as someone smaller like Sport South has the local games. What the fuck is the point of this post you ask? Shit, I dont know. Mainly to say to Zieg and other haterz, the NHL is fine, it will be fine - if you dont want to give it the time of day, don't - Phillips Arena will still be sold out nightly either way. I'm fine with the league being the 4th most popular. Go Thrashers, this is truly an exciting time for this city's team. And if your cellie starts ringing on Saturday night whilst in the middle of a Top Chef rerun...that might be me calling from Phillips after the Thrashers go up 2-0 in the series.
So I'm going to be talking to Will from Arcade Fire at 3:00 today and I wanted to see if there was anything I should ask him about besides all the normal generic interview stuff.

I think Rippy and I listened to this record about 4,000 times up at WUOG. We got so good that we could play a song as dirty as this and clip all the bad words. Good ol' days...
Lyrics: He had the change done at the shop -- earlobes for cocks April Fools He had his balls thrown over the top, like a mop of hair April Fools He had his buttocks transferred to his cheeks on his face April, April doom Because then where would the poop come out of? Oooh His mouth Well, he decided he wanted a vagina down south April Fools Where his belly button once stood, now stood a cock With a mouth at the end that ate the food Oh, well, what a peculiar guest he was at summer swimming parties What with the nipples protruding from his eyelids And, of course, beneath his chin, the penis And on his knees the sacks, he had two put there April Fools And Jester Wally Jew-Boy Navel-eyed Jack, Wiglet Bill You've had your fill of transplants, please You wish you could change back at will, but... Tits coming off the back side -- 69 to be exact I thought it was pretty many, but you be the judge April Dick Well, he became a woman, then a man Then a dog, then a sheep Then a man, then a god He had all put on his body -- "give me 75 tits Give me 1400 balls Give me cocks coming out of every living pore" Oh, vaginas everywhere, a walking sex machine Oh, wonderful at the bathing parties April Fools But this was no April Fools This was for real This was goddamn scary when he walked through the village When he took his place next to the other boys in line To serve his patriotic duty Well, it's kinda rude the way people stare He said, "I'd like all... all... the things I had put on me Covered up with billions of pieces of hair"

BLADES OF GLORY: A
Laughing my damn ass off from the opening scene through the credits. Best Ferrell performance since Anchorman or his bit part in Wedding Crashers. He reminds me a lot of that WC character in this flick, totally being a overblown dick & pushing it way past the limit. This flick has you pissing/crying multiple times. Cool thing here is Jon Heder doesn't get totally overshadowed by Ferrell, he holds his own in a fine way. Funny as shit and hopefully creeps further out from under the Napoleon tag. Most of the movie is totally idiotic and retarded but what the fuck were you going to this movie for in the first place. If you think you're too high brow for movies like this, dont go see it, you'd be better off seeing TMNT. Guess you are too cool to laugh.
