Its hard to describe the awesomenicity...
This weekend was "Dude Of The Year" candidate, Thorny's wedding jam. Got up to Greenville on Friday afternoon in time for the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, plus post dinner "hospitality jam" in the hospitality suite. We found a killer classic rock station in the middle of a Block Party Weekend. We were in the thick of blocks of Zep (Zoso was playing in town too, but Ice and I couldnt convince anyone to take it to the Handlebar
), the Who, ZZ. Then we totally got harshed by a cock BLOCK by Aerosmithy. The freak of the night happened earlier in the night however. In the middle of dinner Thorn comes and murmurs into my ear that there is a "special basket of wings" in the back of the room for wing eaters and that I should get back there and get my munch on. I obey and take a cruise to the back of the room. As I approach the table I see that there are only 6 wings and I think to myself, I can't dip into them wangs if there are only 6, what will the rest of the party do (shit, im not an asshole heathen). Then I catch a glimpse of a Strossner's Logo
. What the shit?????????
Look closely...closer...put your face on it.
Ladies and gents, that shit wasn't no basket of damn wings. That is a mutherfuckin' cake. Thorn's groom's cake to be exact. An impeccible recreation of a basket of chicken wings sitting on a table top. The detail was inconceivably accurate, so much so to fool this "Level 12 Wing Master". Complete with basket, sauce glaze, ramekin with blue cheese, CELERY, wood planks - ALL COMPLETELY MADE FROM FROSTING! A mind blast to the frontal lobe, for sure.
Thorn and I toasted "wings" and chomped into the sugary goodness. Twas quite a feat for whomever created this thing. Props to Kristen for knowing her man!
Also, the Forever Dudes
completely rocked the ceremony. Bach, who? Handel, fwhat? Pachelbel, huh? Aced em a serve to the grave! The wedding planner threw us a funky bone right before the ceremony and had us start the pre-wedding jam a little bit before the planned time. We had planned for about 20 minutes worth of pre-wedding "new classics" including: Runnin' From Heaven, New Slang, Love Me Tender, WONDERFUL TONIGHT, Just Like Heaven, & In My Life. We finished running through those songs with 4-5 minutes to spare and material momentarily exhausted. We did only what the dudes could do, called an audible at the line and promptly threw in a new France demo called "Gemini Rose" straight into "Cannon In D" as the wedding party entered the Pretty Place
! Yes people, this is where we were jamming on the edge of the world for the eagles to cry to. And trust us the eagles were freakin'. Cannon In D
ushered the wedding party in, Air On G
brought the beautiful bride down the isle, The Lord's Prayer (Dudes Remix)
soothed the minds mid-set, and Hornpipe
lead them on their way.
The reception was off the chain. Excellent food and open bar = freaky jam sesh. Thorn kept warning us that the last 5 songs were going to burn the place down and sure enough, he delivered. Maggie May, Everlong, and Remedy were the highlights! We jammed it loose and I think the photographer got some choice pics of tie around head ice as he was moshpit headbanging to Everlong. After partied it at Ice's suite once we got 50+ beers at 11:29 and convinced the attendents at the gas station that Ice was a flavored condom man. Got to the hotel and pretty much the entire party joined us and added a case of wine from the reception. Filled the sink with ice and started jamming. Thorn and Kristen came as well to continue the already pushing perfect night. Man Behind The Curtain came through with his ipod which we promptly hooked up through the alarm clock and continued to hit a heavy Thorn approved playlist. Best part of the afterparty: during the out of control "EVENFLOW" jam, Ice jumping from the top of the TV stand onto the bed as Thorn was yelling "NOW NOW, VEDER JUMPS NOW!" - we turn to the door of the bedroom to see Stewart walk in with 4 pizzas!! Holy fuck, what a wedding.
***We also wrote about 4 more scenes for UNORTHADOCS this weekend. Just from livin'!
