I'm fucking sorry...
But one of the best fucking songs that the Pixies played last night was
BROKEN FACE. Why does everyone hate that song? It fucking rocks hard, hands down. I was actually really surprised they played it. I purposefully hadn't looked at any sort of set list from this tour so I wouldn't know what to expect and they fucking blew shit out of the water. They snuck
Holiday Song in the middle of
Nimrod's Song which really sounded so well together. It was like it was meant to be one. Like me and Shaq. It was all really awesome but there were definite highlights....
Planet of Sound - wailed. The brought the hits out early with
Wave and
Monkey right back to back. The place was going wild. Speaking of which...after living in ATL for 85% of my 27 years, I finally went to the Fox last night. I think I was most excited for
Debaser and
Broken Face back to back. Nutz, I jumped and completely spilled my beer all over this girl in front of me, but we called it even cause she was farting all night. I'm dead serious.
It was kinda quiet for what I had expected. They had like 8 half stacks up on stage and I thought it was going to be loud as hell, but it was kinda quiet. Which was good and bad. The crowd was so loud inbetween songs (and they had to get through 31 of them) that it was hard to hear what song they had started. For example,
Gigantic starts with that huge bass line and I was thrown off tempo-wise the whole song. Black Francis was back in business. He screams like no other and kept his voice screeching the whole night.
Isla de Encanta was enchanting and sounded very pretty. They also took a page out of Ween's band book and played
Wave of Mutilation (which I think is one of the coolest phrases of all time - that should have been the title of that post with Pedro...) TWICE! The acoustic version sounded better than it does on record! Probably the best moment of the night was during
Where Is My Mind when they drenched Kim Deal's vocals in echo and reverb for her background wail (which was also helped out by every person in the crowd) and it ended the show absolutely perfectly. Probably their best song ever.
It was just really neat to see a band that you have liked for so long and thought you would never see live. They brought it last night, not that I didn't expect them to, but still - I definitely got chills during moments.
